Welcome to the third newsletter from BEiNG-WISE

What has been done so far?

Seventeen months have passed since the first MC meeting in Brussels, in August 2024. During this period, we held our third General Meeting in Dublin, Ireland, we celebrated International Women’s Day, and organized the second training school in Tirana, Albania.

Dublin meeting (15-16 January).   We held our third General Meeting (CORE Group, MC, and WG meeting) at the University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. 43 face-to-face participants and another 20 online participants came together to collaborate and innovate again in cross-domain topics ranging from cyber-security, wireless communication technology, data science, artificial intelligence, sociology, psychology, and law. This meeting includes an invited keynote on “Gender Bias in Cybersecurity Solutions” by Asreen Rostami from the RISE Research Institute, and updates on the ongoing activities in all WGs.

The second training school (4-6 June) (https://beingwise.eu/training-schools/second-training-school/). The second school was held in the Faculty of Information Technology, Polytechnic University of Tirana, Albania, with 38 face-to-face participants. The theme for this training school was “the Double Nature of Machine Learning (ML)/ Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Cybersecurity”.  This School has the main objective to present some advanced aspects related to cybersecurity and Machine Learning (ML)/Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches. Specific theme related to explainability and reliability concerning cybersecurity and ML/AI methods.

International Women’s Day (8 March) – Being-Wise COST Action has celebrated the amazing women of BEiNG-WISE COST Action who are transforming cybersecurity with passion, innovation, and inclusivity. Being-Wise dedicated this day to featuring inspiring women in our Action who are making an impact in cybersecurity and interdisciplinary research.

Calabria meeting (23-24 June). We held a Technical Joint WG Meeting at the Faculty for Computer Science and Engineering, University of Calabria in Cosenza, Italy. 51 face-to-face participants and others joined online came together to collaborate and innovate again in cross-domain topics concerning data breaches and risk analysis, the use of deepfakes in wireless networks, Human-Centric Cyber Education, Ethical issues related to AI and Robotics, Human Factors in Cybercrime, and Legal and technical sides of inclusive cybersecurity and privacy, to mention a few. Additionally, there were dedicated sessions concerning the ongoing activities in each WG.
